SWP winge about Muslim teen being locked up for looking terrorism stuff on net

Teenager’s conviction on ‘terrorism’ charges shows threat to civil liberties

Hammaad Munshi became the youngest person convicted under the Terrorism Act this week. He was under police surveillance from the age of 16 and was found guilty along with two other men of “making a record of information likely to be useful in terrorism”.

Teenagers looking for answers and information on the internet are now being criminalised. If convicted they can receive a prison sentence of up to ten years. The trial is only the most recent example of civil liberties under attack in Britain.

It can only be understood in the context of the “war on terror” and increasing Islamophobia. Many innocent people will also be imprisoned before the war is over.

Think the Socialist Worker would be so sympathetic if he had been looking at a racist Nazi website?

Ahh but of course teenage Muslims looking at terrorist website are only “looking for information and answers” and of course trying to find a way to “fight back” for the war in Iraq etc etc.
